How can I help

Life brings a mix of experiences — some uplifting, others deeply challenging. Past or recent trauma, loss, or other difficult experiences can shape how you feel and connect with others. This includes, but isn’t limited to, adopted adults, adoptive parents, and parents who have lost a child through adoption.

You don’t need to be in crisis to seek therapy. Many of my clients come to therapy when recurring emotions or situations start to affect their confidence, relationships, or sense of self. Some are navigating life transitions, relationship challenges, grief, or unresolved experiences from the past that continue to appear in everyday moments.

Through trauma-informed counselling, EMDR, and hypnotherapy, we can explore how past and present experiences affect your emotions and behaviour, and develop practical ways to respond differently.

Counselling

Our experiences — from childhood to recent events — influence how we move through life, often shaping our emotions, reactions, and behaviour. We often adapt unconsciously to feel accepted, fit in, or meet expectations, sometimes in ways we don’t fully notice.

How adaptations can show up:

  • Views, expectations, and self-worth in relationships

  • Responses to challenges, stress, or change

  • Sense of identity, confidence, and self-esteem

  • Reactions to grief, loss, or difficult life situations

  • Unhelpful coping strategies, self-criticism, perfectionism, or catastrophizing

What counselling can help you with

In therapy, you can explore past and recent traumatic experiences, understand their impact, and see how some of these adaptations influence your everyday life — discovering ways to respond that feel authentic and empowering.

Together, we can focus on:

  • Easing stress, worry, or panic and developing greater emotional balance

  • Processing grief, loss, or trauma

  • Building resilience, confidence, and stronger connections

  • Exploring adoption-related experiences — whether you are an adopted adult, an adoptive parent, or a parent who has lost a child through adoption

  • Feeling more in control during life transitions or relationship changes

  • Making decisions with greater ease and confidence

Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy is a practical tool that helps you make changes — whether that’s reducing stress, managing strong emotions, or shifting behaviours you no longer want.

Many of my clients use hypnotherapy to:

  • Reduce stress or manage tension in daily life

  • Process past or recent traumatic experiences

  • Build confidence and strengthen resilience

  • Change behaviours they no longer want, such as smoking, fears, or phobias

Using gentle relaxation and visualization techniques, hypnotherapy helps you feel focused and more aware of how you respond to challenges. You remain fully aware and in control throughout each session, working collaboratively to develop practical strategies for change that fit your life.

What to Expect and How It Can Help You

Hypnotherapy sessions are collaborative and designed to help you:

  • Recognize patterns or behaviours that are no longer helpful

  • Practice new ways of responding to challenging situations with more calm and emotional resilience

  • Strengthen confidence and self-awareness

  • Feel calmer, more grounded, and better able to manage life’s challenges

EMDR Therapy

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a gentle, evidence-based approach that helps you process past experiences that continue to influence how you respond to everyday life situations. It’s often used for trauma, anxiety, or experiences that keep resurfacing.

EMDR uses bilateral stimulation, such as guided eye movements, while I gently guide you through the process. This helps your brain reprocess memories safely, so experiences that once activated strong reactions become easier to manage. Over time, those traumatic memories or difficult experiences can feel less intense, allowing you to respond with greater agency and confidence to life events.

EMDR  focuses on how these experiences affect your thoughts, feelings, and behaviour, allowing your brain’s natural healing process to move forward more effectively.

What to expect and how it can help you:

  • Explore traumatic past or recent experiences that continue to influence you

  • Work through difficult emotions in a safe and guided way

  • Build confidence, resilience, and self-awareness

  • Feel more confident and in control handling everyday life
